close encounter

Last month I was in attendence at the Microsoft Pro Photo summit. After the cocktail party at the Bellvue Arts Museum, we had drinks with some of the people from Microsoft and one of them asked me what I shoot. "I shoot myself," I replied.

They both looked at me a little cockeyed, wondering if I was serious. My friend asked them if they had heard of Chuck Close? Neither had, so it was a pointless reference.

Well the next day as we were chillin in the executive conference center... to what to my wondering eyes would appear?

But a Chuck Close self-porto with me in his beard.

Both Eyes Open: A Decade-Plus of Photographs.

under exposed, over developed

My friend was asking me why I hadn't shown in so long... and when again would I hang in a gallery. the last public showing of my work was back in December in a show with about 50+ other photographers. Prior to that I was on hiatus going back to 2001, where the last public showing of my work was an open studio of self portraits titled Against the Grain, for a First Friday art-walk.

Plain & simple I haven't shown my work over the last five years. Well kids, this is the year that I will be unveiling a new body of work I've been working on in those five years of absence.

Stay tuned in the coming months for details.
